Chess is a fun and strategic game that helps children to improve their decision making, strategic thinking, analytical skills and more.
Children will learn the name of the individual pieces along with their unique movement abilities, basic openings and endgames, and in game tactics. Classes will consist of 30-40 minutes of instruction with 20-30 minutes of supervised playtime.
This class is geared towards children who already have a grasp on the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn intermediate to advanced tactics and strategies, as well as the importance of openings, middlegames, endgames, and tournament play.
Each program will run for 9 weeks with the last week consisting of a mock tournament with medals for kids. Classes will be focused on FUN and LEARNING.
When: Saturdays November 18, 2017 – February 3, 2018 (No classes on 11/25, 12/23, & 12/30)
Where: R.W. Black Community Center
Intermediate Class: has been combined with the beginner class.

Prathiba is a fun and enthusiastic coach with years of experience teaching kids in MA, NH, NYC and NJ. She is an International Master (USCF 2266), who has won numerous national and international chess tournaments. Prathiba was awarded the “Rookie coach of the year in 2012” from ChessNYC. Many of her students have placed in both state and national tournaments and she trained the 2014 National Junior High Girls Champion.
